Enjoy the Harvest from Green Gardens this Season
Located on the north-side of Battle Creek, Michigan, Green Gardens Community Farm will be in its third season in 2010! My goal as the farmer is to provide you with top-notch produce at a fair price while also treating the land with the respect that it rightfully deserves. As a local producer, I have several advantages over distant, and many times, conventional growers. I can harvest a crop and sell it to you the very same day for maximum freshness, many new and different vegetable varieties will be accessible for your enjoyment, and you are welcome to visit the farm to understand my growing practices or just appreciate its beauty and the bounty that it provides for us. As a new grower, I am committed to growing your food in an environmentally sustainable manner. This means the farm does not use synthetic (petroleum-based fertilizers) or toxic pesticides, fungicides, or herbicides on the crops. I strongly believe that natural manures, crop diversity, cover-cropping, and crop rotations are the key to maintaining not only a fertile, productive farm, but also one that provides you and your family with safe food. By using organic farming practices, I can also guarantee that we are not polluting the soils, water, or air that we and other biological life depend on. To recognize these growing practices, the farm is now Certified Naturally Grown.

In 2010, Green Gardens will be selling at two farmers markets: Richland on WED (3:30-6:30 PM) at the Community Recreation Center mid-May through October, and Kalamazoo on SAT (7:30 AM-12:00 PM) at the Bank Street Market from May through mid-November. The local Battle Creek community will also be able to purchase the farm's produce by joining the 80-member Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program (contact the farm to be placed on the 2010 waiting list), or by coming out to the farm after purchasing from the online farm stand.
Please feel free to contact me with questions at any time or visit the farm. I am very much looking forward to meeting you and being your trusted farmer.
Thank you, Trent Thompson
