New Farm Photos

Been super busy here the last few weeks getting the crops in. It has been so warm I decided to go ahead and plant several crops earlier than usual. So far so good. I don't have too much time for commentary tonight...I'm going to try to get some early seedings of more root crops and spinach in at 6:30 AM before the rains come. I have a feeling it's going to be a good growing year. I can't imagine the cooler weather crops not doing awesome this season.

I sure hope so, Karmel. I got the Kale and Collards in awfully early this year...I think it was 4/16. All the other cool crops are thriving, too. Have you ever had pac choi or kohlrabi? These are a couple of the lesser known crops I enjoy growing...they are two of my favorites. Pac Choi is an amazing asian cooking green (wonderful in stir frys) and kohlrabi is a root-like crop that has a cabbagy taste to it...I just snack on them raw...very refreshing. Anyway, they are looking great right now, too. No worries about the comments...that code is horrible. I get it wrong all the time, how annoying.

Trent, I have had it if it's the same thing as "bok choy" with just a different spelling, which I assume it is. Yes, it's great, I really like it. I recently came across a recipe for roasted/braised baby bok choy. We all need to eat more greens like that. Kohlrabi is a different story...I know lots of people cook it and like it, I just need to try it. I think I've put it in a salad, but nothing fancy.

Hi Judith,

Things are coming along pretty good so far this year, although I'm hoping we get a good drenching tonight with the rain. The farm's sandy soil was turning into a desert...it was getting to be difficult to keep up with the irrigating. There have been some issues controlling flea beetles, they love turnips and other asian greens like chinese cabbage, kamatsuna, and mustards. Otherwise, everything else is looking great.
